Cutterne Mill
The Grainstore &  Miller's Cottage: Self-Catering Places to Stay

Stone-built Cutterne Mill is set within 7 acres of old apple orchard and pasture on the River Alham, it has been the site of a mill since Domesday. This historic group of buildings - listed Grade II - still has a working waterwheel, mill pond and leat. Castle Cary is 3 miles away (GWR mainline to Paddington) and Bruton is 4 miles. This is the perfect place from which to explore, or just stay put.

The owners (who live in the Mill House) have just converted the Grainstore and the adjoining Miller's Cottage to provide places to stay, in what is a wildlife haven. You are welcome to walk along the river to the millpond and in our fields (grazed by calves in summer) and orchards. The Natterjack pub is 5 minutes walk up our lane that serves good food at lunchtime and in the evening. There are good gastropubs and restaurants nearby. Footpaths run out from the Mill in all directions and there are excellent local walks.

The Grainstore (sleeps 3 + 1) is above the original cobbled cider house, apple press and double cart shed, which provides sheltered parking for cars and bikes.
The Grainstore's main room is a large light-filled living/kitchen/dining space with oak floor and lime-washed beams. It has a fully-fitted kitchen with dishwasher; the wood-burning stove means that it is welcoming all the year round, a place for cooking, eating and  relaxing. There are two bedrooms, one with king-size double bed, one single. There is also a folding single bed. The bathroom has a bath and shower and there is a utility space with washing machine & dryer.

Miller's Cottage (sleeps 2) is next door and adjoining. It can be rented on its own or with the Grainstore. There is a secure door between the two. This is a one-up, one-down cottage (which once housed a family of 8). On the ground floor is a cosy kitchen/living room with underfloor heating; upstairs is a sunny bedroom with double bed and spacious shower room.

Each property has its own entrance and its own outdoor grassy terrace with garden furniture. Central heating.
